Toyota RAV4 vs Honda CR-V: Which Used SUV Is Right for BC?
Reliability, hybrids, cargo, AWD and pricing — how two of BC's most popular used SUVs compare.
The Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are two of the most popular used SUVs in BC. Both are excellent; the right one depends on what you value most.
Reliability considerations
Both have strong reputations. As with any used vehicle, the maintenance history of the individual car matters more than the badge. Research known issues for the specific model year you're looking at.
Fuel economy and hybrid availability
Both offer hybrid versions in recent generations. The RAV4 Hybrid has been available longer, so there are more used examples. Compare official fuel ratings for the exact years and trims.
Interior and practicality
The CR-V is known for a roomy rear seat and an open, practical cabin. The RAV4 offers a more rugged look and feel, with useful storage throughout.
AWD
Both are available with AWD; the RAV4 Hybrid uses an electric motor to drive the rear wheels. Either works well for Lower Mainland weather with proper tires.
Cargo
Both have generous cargo areas for the class. Bring your stroller, golf clubs or hockey bag to check fit.
Maintenance
Both are widely serviced with good parts availability. Follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.
Used-market considerations and price
Both hold value well, and the RAV4 (especially the hybrid) is often in very high demand. Expect to compare similar years, trims and kilometres to judge value.
Which is right for you?
- Want the widest selection of used hybrids? The RAV4 may be easier to find.
- Prioritise rear-seat and cabin space? The CR-V is worth a close look.
- Not sure? Drive both back to back.
